482 - Chevrolet Fire Chief
Corgi’s second casting of the Chevrolet Impala from the mid-60s gave rise to a taxi (Corgi 480), a police car (Corgi 481) and this striking Chevrolet Fire Chief (Corgi 482) resplendent in a red and white livery. Both the fire and police versions included driver and passenger figures – whereas the taxi had just a driver. With a blue emergency light as opposed to the police car’s red light, the Fire Chief Car was given ‘Fire Dept’ door stickers, with ‘Fire Chief ’ in bold white lettering across the bonnet.
The most noticeable aspect of Corgi’s second Impala casting was its split die-cast body. This allowed the two halves to be painted separately which avoided errors and wastage. The Chevrolet Fire Chief’s car was in the Corgi range from 1965 to 1969.
